Traveling by car while pregnant

As the holidays are approaching, many people will be traveling. It is important to understand when it is safe to travel, specifically later in pregnancy. Travel Safety Week to Week

30 - 36 Weeks

By 30 weeks, you are well into your third trimester. This is a great time to travel. At this time, you probably are not overly uncomfortable. Every couple of hours be sure to stop, get out of the car, and walk around to stretch your legs. Bring water and snacks, hydration is so important. Give yourself extra time when planning so that you can allow for extra stops. Be sure to bring your insurance card just in case you need medical care while you are away.

36+ Weeks

It is not recommended to travel by air after 36 weeks. If you are traveling by car, it is advised to not go more that 2 hours away. It would be helpful to look up a medical facility nearest to where you are going, just in case you go into labor.

38 Weeks and Beyond

Starting at 38 weeks, it is best to stay close to home and not travel. Not only is this a time that labor could happen any day, this is also a time to get ready for the arrival of your little one. Take this time to rest and prepare your space for bringing your baby home.
